This is a wonderful, happy, sad story.
When Green Shoe Studio ran an online singer-songwriter competition where they invited talent to upload YouTube videos, they received something entirely unexpected and wholly touching: a large manilla envelope in the post with a hand-written address.
That envelope came from a 96-year-old man Fred, who had written a song about his 75 years with his wife, Lorraine. And, as the studio folks read it, they realised that Lorraine had passed away about a month before.
So they made Fred's song for him, with professional musicians and singers, and recorded this touching video about his story and his life together with Lorraine.
The song itself starts from about 5.30, but it's the story you'll want to watch.
The single is available to buy on iTunes, and the studio suggests that purchases will "support Fred" - so we can only assume he's entitled to songwriter royalties.
Fair play to the folks at Green Shoe Studio for going to great lengths for Fred.
