It has emerged Turkish Airlines could be poised to give Ryanair a run for its money in the takeover of Aer Lingus.
The company is among a number of international carriers said to be assessing the former flag carrier.
Because it is based outside the EU, Turkish Airlines could only hold a 49% stake in Aer Lingus.
However, it could buy the Government's 25% stake or team up with another airline to form a partnership.
Ethihad Airways, which has already expressed an interest in buying the State's stake, is in a similar position to Turkish Airlines.
