A new report published today shows 19,000 people started new businesses in Ireland in 2012.
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton launched the report which finds more than one in four, or 28% of early stage entrepreneurs have, or expect at least 25% of their customers in overseas markets.
There has also been an increase in the number of those aged 50 and over that are actively considering setting up a business or have recently done so.
Twice the number of men are starting new businesses in Ireland compared to women.
