Irish app that connects caregivers with services reaches tech final

An Irish app, described as Facebook for carers, is one of 16 finalists at a massive technology competition in the UK this week.

CareZapp beat around 500 other companies for a chance to win an almost €40,000 prize fund at the AOL-backed TechCrunch event in London.

Almost 10,000 people around Ireland will be using CareZapp over the coming year following its collaboration with MyHomeCare.

The app, which is free, connects the home, community and technology and allows caregivers to create networks of care and connect with a variety of services.

25 per cent of the adult population in the EU are unpaid caregivers - with the figure rising to 29 per cent in the US.
