Hotel occupancy levels almost back to peak

The Irish hotel industry is showing strong signs of recovery.

A report by advisors to the sector Crowe Horwath shows Dublin hotels are achieving occupancy rates just slightly below peak levels.

The room rate in our hotels has also increased slightly since 2012, although operating costs have also gone up.

Partner at Crowe Horwath Aiden Murphy, explaining the main findings of the latest Irish Hotel Survey, said: "Overall, what we've seen is an extra 459,000 overseas visitors who came to Ireland in 2013, and an increase in domestic consumer confidence.

"All of this has led to an increase in occupancy levels by 2.7%, to 65.9% occupancy."
