Failte Ireland: Tourism operators confident about 2013

Failte Ireland has said tourism operators are at their most positive about the year ahead since the beginning of the downturn.

Failte Ireland has said tourism operators are at their most positive about the year ahead since the beginning of the downturn.

The number of people employed in the tourism sector rose by 5,000 last year, the first increase since 2008.

Overseas revenue also increased for the first time since the recession by €100m.

The group has issued an upbeat prediciton for 2013, a significant bounce is expected from The Gathering with 2,562 events organised so far.

Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland Shaun Quinn said tourism operators are confident about the year ahead.
