Strike action planned for tomorrow at the Bulmers brewery in Clonmel has been called off.
The strike was cancelled following a meeting of Unite trade union members in Bulmers earlier and talks at the Labour Relations Commission yesterday.
Unite members voted last month to take industrial action after one of their workers at the plant was made redundant on terms that were around half of what was set out in a collective agreement in 2009.
The union claims that Bulmers have agreed to engage in further talks with them and to honour the terms of the 2009 agreement in relation to that redundancy.
“Yesterday, following a tough but constructive engagement at the LRC, the company agreed to pay our member in accordance with the 2009 agreement, and to engage further with Unite in respect of the issues involved," said Tony Kelly, the union's regional officer.
“I would like to thank the other unions representing workers in Bulmers – SIPTU and the TEEU – for their support during this difficult process."
