A US woman has claimed that her pre-school daughter had her homemade meal swapped for chicken nuggets by a state employee who said the food was not nutritious enough.

The mother alleges an agent from the Division of Child Development and Early Education at the state Department of Health and Human Services deemed her daughter's lunch - which consisted of a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, crisps and apple juice - did not comply with nutrition guidelines.

But Jani Kozlowski of the Division of Child Development did not see why the agent had exchanged the meal for the $1.25 nuggets.
