An Indian man has spent more than €17,000 on a shirt made of solid gold.

King Midas Datta Phuge is hoping splashing the cash on his luxury attire - which was created by a team of 15 goldsmiths over two weeks with each one working 16 hours a day - will ensure he is a hit with the ladies.

He told Indian newspaper the Pune Mirror: "I know I am not the best looking man in the world but surely no woman could fail to be dazzled by this shirt? The gold shirt has been one of my dreams."
