Library hosts pole dancing class to boost attendance

A library in Midlothian, east Scotland, is holding pole dancing classes to encourage visitors.

Mayfield Library is putting on the session on Love Your Library Day next month in the hope it will inspire more locals to borrow books.

Bob Constable, Midlothian Council's cabinet member for public services and leisure, said: "Love Your Library Day is a marvellous opportunity for us all to celebrate the hugely important role libraries play in the heart of our local community.

"The pole fitness session is a fun and interesting way of encouraging more people into our libraries, trying out all the services on offer and ultimately borrowing more books."

Other libraries in the county are also offering an array of activities on Love Your Library Day, such as country dancing, but Mayfield Library is thought to be the first local authority to put on pole dancing.
