Officials in New York City have gathered good luck charms to accompany the unlucky number 13 that will light up when the New Year’s Eve ball drops in Times Square.

The massive sign in the shape of the number 13 will be installed with 13 good luck charms atop One Times Square for the celebration that will ring in the new year.

The charms include a four-leaf clover, gold coins and a Buddha statue.

Times Square Alliance president Tim Tompkins said officials want to reassure any superstitious revellers.

More than one billion people are expected to watch the various festivities on television.
