Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe makes first foreign trip since resignation

Zimbabwe’s former leader Robert Mugabe and his wife, Grace, have travelled to Singapore on their first trip abroad since Mr Mugabe resigned as president last month under pressure from the military and ruling party.

Press secretary George Charamba has confirmed the 93-year-old Mr Mugabe has gone on his annual leave and for regular medical checkups.

He said Mr Mugabe is free to travel when and where he wants.

Mr Mugabe has not made any public appearances since he stepped down after 37 years in power.

For many years he has taken annual trips to Singapore and other Asian countries in January and February.

His former ally Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn in as president following the end of Mr Mugabe’s long spell in power.
