A woman driving with a small child in her car crashed through a gate at an airport in Arizona and drove on the runway, police said.

A woman driving with a small child in her car crashed through a gate at an airport in Arizona and drove on the runway, police said.

The woman rammed an airport gate late on Thursday night and started crossing the runway at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, said Sgt Trent Crump.

Police officers forced the car to stop after a few minutes and detained the driver.

Sgt Crump said the driver and the child were not injured. He said the woman may have been impaired but did not elaborate.

Officials said airport operations were stopped for about 15 minutes because of the incident.

Police did not release any other details.
