Tens of thousands of people are expected in St Peter's Square in Rome this morning for Pope Benedict's last general audience.

The 85-year-old steps down tomorrow having declared he was too weak in body and mind to keep up with the modern world.

The Vatican has said 50,000 people have obtained tickets for the event, but city authorities are preparing for up to 200,000.
