US 'captures bin Laden's son-in-law'

US officials have captured Osama bin Laden’s spokesman in Jordan, a senior congressman says.

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith was captured within the last week.

Republican Peter King says the capture was confirmed to him by US law enforcement officials.

Mr King says Ghaith was bin Laden’s son-in-law and was part of the September 11, 2001, plot against the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.

The congressman called Ghaith’s capture, a “very significant victory” in US efforts against al-Qaida.
