Three police officers have been shot and injured in a police station in New Jersey. The gunman has been shot dead.
The gunman had been brought into Gloucester Township Police station just before dawn today in connection with a domestic incident when he got into a confrontation with officers.
It is understood he became violent, grabbed one of the police officers' guns and opened fire.
He shot three police officers. Two of them sustained minor injuries as they were wearing bulletproof vests. The third was shot just below his vest and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
A spokesperson for the police say the gunman was shot dead during the confrontation and an investigation is continuing.
The incident follows several recent multiple shootings in the United States, and comes two weeks after a gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
