Tearful Pistorius formally charged with murder
A tearful Oscar Pistorius has appeared before a South African court, where he has been formally charged with murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day.
The 26-year-old sprinter broke down in the dock as magistrate Desmond Nair announced a single charge of killing Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius is expected to apply for bail, but police have said they will oppose any such application.
South African media is reporting that shots that killed Reeva Steenkamp were fired through a bathroom door.
Beeld newspaper, which cited unnamed residents who had spoken to security guards, said she had been shot four times through the door.
