Nearly 300 people have been arrested during demonstrations in Paris over a new law allowing gay marriage.

Nearly 300 people have been arrested during demonstrations in Paris over a new law allowing gay marriage.

Around 150,000 people joined yesterday's mostly peaceful rally, but trouble broke out late last night, and riot police were called in.

The French government has blamed the extreme right for the violence.
