A 14-year-old Palestinian boy was killed on today after being shot in the head in renewed clashes outside a police station in Gaza, Palestinian police said.

Fathy Mushtaha was caught in a gunbattle as members of a powerful Gaza family tried to storm the police station to free an incarcerated relative.

In the exchange of gunfire, the boy was mistakenly shot in the head and died instantly, the police said.

An attempt by the same family to free their relative sparked a deadly exchange on yesterday that killed a police officer and a civilian.

Earlier today, Palestinian policemen angry over the killing of the officer stormed the Gaza-Egypt border crossing, forcing European monitors to close the terminal for several hours.
