A hardline Palestinian group has claimed responsibility for the murder of the 75-year-old right winger.

They have said it was carried out in retaliation to for the killing of its leader earlier this year.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has condemned the killing.

Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, is believed to be taking a number of measures in response.
