An Islamic leader from the mosque where the suspected 'shoe' bomber worshipped has warned that other Muslims could have been converted to extreme views.

Chairman of the Brixton mosque in London, Abdul Haqq Baker issued the warning two days after the man officially named as Richard Reid appeared in a Boston court.

Mr Reid, also known as Abdel Rahim and who has also been named as Tariq Raja, was arrested after attempting to cause an explosion with an improvised explosive hidden in his shoe on a flight bound to Florida from Paris.

Mr Baker warned there could be other people like Reid and that he was very concerned.

He added another worshipper at the mosque, French Moroccan Zacarias Moussaoui had been charged in the US with conspiracy over the September 11 attacks.
