Man who drugged his twin brother and took his clothes to escape prison is recaptured
A fugitive prisoner in Peru has been recaptured 13 months after he walked out of jail and left his twin brother in his place.
Alexander Delgado was serving 16 years for child sexual abuse and robbery when his twin brother, Giancarlo, visited him last January.
During the visit, 27-year-old Alexander drugged him, took his ID, changed into his clothes and walked to freedom.
After prison authorities confirmed the swap by taking Giancarlo's fingerprints, they launched a manhunt.
They offered a reward of 20,000 Peruvian Sol (€7,200) for information leading to his capture which happened on Monday, 13 months after the escape.
The head of Peru’s interior ministry said: “Today there was the recapture of a violator who on 10 January 2017 fled Piedras Gordas when he was supplanted by his brother.

“This relative was in detention in place of him, but today Delgado Herrera has been arrested.”
While his brother was on the run, police had arrested Giancarlo on suspicion of helping with the escape. Argentine newspaper La Nacion reported the brother was detained for several hours but was not charged
When asked by local media, Alexander Delgado said he wanted to escape "because I was desperate to see my mother".
He is expected to be moved from the original prison north of Lima to a maximum security facility in the southern highlands.
