A defiant Jordanian King Abdullah addressed the nation today, vowing to bring the perpetrators of the terror attacks that hit Jordan to justice.
Speaking on state television, Abdullah said Jordan does not “bend to blackmail” and praised the country’s security forces and citizens who death with the bombings that hit three hotels in Amman.
Al-Qaida in Iraq issued a claim of responsibility yesterday for the attacks that killed at least 56 people, linking the deadly blasts to the war in Iraq and calling Amman the “backyard garden” for US operations.
Police continued a broad security lockdown and authorities sent DNA samples for testing to identify the attackers.
Land borders were reopened after being closed for nearly 12 hours.
Authorities also detained a number of Iraqis as security forces scrambled to capture those behind the bombings before they could flee the country.
It was not immediately clear whether those detained were suspects or witnesses.
