Iraqi election commission officials are expected to announce final results from the landmark January 30 balloting at a news conference today.

The news conference is scheduled for 1pm Irish time.

Election commission spokesman Farid Ayar said on Al-Arabiya television last night that the commission would meet this morning to finalise some unspecified issues and then announce the final figures in the afternoon.

The results will be considered official after a three-day period.
