India gang-rape case due to get underway

Legal proceedings in a gang-rape case that has sparked protests about the treatment of woman in India are due to begin in a new fast-track court set up in New Delhi specifically to deal with crimes against women.

Five men are due to appear at the special court to face charges of raping and murdering a 23-year-old student on board a moving bus in the capital last month.

A sixth suspect in the attack claims to be a juvenile and his case is being handled separately.

The attack has brought the little discussed topic of crime against women to the forefront in India.

However some activists have raised concerns that the fast-track court system is not the answer to protect women.
