Icelandic politicians should be tried for negligence that led to the country's banking and financial meltdown, officials have recommended.

Icelandic politicians should be tried for negligence that led to the country's banking and financial meltdown, officials have recommended.

That's the finding of a special parliamentary commission set up shortly after Iceland's three major banks went bust two years ago.

Its report recommends charges of negligence be brought against former Prime Minister Geir Haarde and two other ex-Cabinet ministers.

The Icelandic parliament is to debate the report tomorrow.
