Professor Stephen Hawking has been named as one of the first recipients of the Special Fundamental Physics Prize for his lifetime contribution to physics.

It is one of the most lucrative science prizes in the history of time.

He said he was "delighted and honoured" to win, and intends to give some of his 1-point-8 million reward to help his autistic grandson.
