A group of 10 people accused of helping Europe’s most wanted fugitive Ratko Mladic evade justice, were cleared by a Serbian court today.
The court said there was not enough evidence to prove that they were helping the former Bosnian Serb military commander remain free.
Mladic is wanted by a United Nations war crimes court on genocide charges for the massacre in 1995 of 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica and other atrocities of Bosnia’s 1992-95 war.
The ruling is a blow to Serbia’s efforts to show it is doing all it can to arrest Mladic, whom it must capture to advance toward EU membership.
The Hague court’s chief prosecutor, Serge Brammertz, has urged Serbia to crack down on Mladic’s support network.
