Germany treatment for Bolshoi ballet chief after sulphuric-acid attack

The artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet is to fly to Germany for further treatment following an acid attack which caused severe burns to his face and eyes.

An unidentified attacker threw sulphuric acid in Sergei Filin’s face in Moscow on January 17, as he was returning home from work.

Mr Filin, speaking today after being discharged from a Moscow hospital where he underwent several operations, said he suspected who was behind the attack but would not mention any names as the inquiry is ongoing.

Wearing sunglasses and with a bandage under his chin, he said he is still seeing as if through a mist as his eye treatment is continuing.

He said his wife will accompany him on a flight to Germany where he will continue his recovery.
