Georgia gets billions in war aid

More than £2bn (€2.55bn) has been pledged for the rebuilding of war-ravaged areas of Georgia by the EU, US and other international donors.

More than £2bn (€2.55bn) has been pledged for the rebuilding of war-ravaged areas of Georgia by the EU, US and other international donors.

EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said the international community “exceeded expectations” in public money and private contributions.

The European Union, the United States and others have criticised Russia for invading Georgia in August in an effort to back up separatist movements in South Ossetia and Abkhazia while repelling a Georgian offensive in South Ossetia.
