Fresh winter weather blast feared in US
There are fears that the north-east US region of New England could face a fresh blast of winter weather this week, as the population shivers following its fourth winter storm in the space of a month.
Forecasters warned that fresh snowfall could occur in midweek.
Experts had warned of exceptionally cold air over Sunday, perhaps the coldest conditions experienced by people in New England’s six states in years.
Strong winds are expected to continue into Monday, reducing visibility, creating snowdrifts and complicating ongoing clean-up efforts.
A National Weather Service spokesman said exposed skin could start to develop frostbite in “a matter of minutes”.
The Arctic cold front already had frozen the upper Mid-west of the US.

Some areas of New England reported nearly 2ft of snow from the storm.
The Massachusetts Bay transportation authority said it will resume a limited service after the latest snowstorm forced the agency to suspend services again.
The Coast Guard said it rescued an Australian father-and-son sailing team whose boat lost power and had its sails torn in 60mph winds about 140 miles south-east of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
The National Weather Service said after heading out to sea, the storm may turn north and drop a fresh round of snow on the north-east on Tuesday, though it is unclear how much.
“The question is whether it grazes by southern New England on its way out to the North Atlantic,” the spokesman said.
