France’s strikes over changes to the country’s pension system are costing the national economy more than €400m per day, the finance minister said.
Marseille rubbish collectors and workers at three oil refineries voted to end their walkouts, but other protests continued against the plan to raise the retirement age to 62.
Rotting piles of rubbish – now nearly 9,000 tons – are becoming a health hazard in Marseille, and collectors said they had suspended their two-week- long walkout because of the mounting hygiene problems.
