Freezing weather blamed for deaths across EU

Blizzards and plummeting temperatures have led to a number of deaths across Europe.

Authorities in Bosnia said two people were killed over the weekend amid the freezing conditions.

Police said that one man was found dead in his orchard in the village of Celinac in north-western Bosnia.

The other was found unconscious next to a road near Banja Luka. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Doctors told the police in both cases that low temperatures caused the victims’ hearts to stop.

Temperatures in the area dropped as low as -24C, while 20 inches of snow disrupted traffic.

Elsewhere in the Balkans, four people died in Croatia and two in Serbia as a result of blizzards over the weekend.
