At least five people have died and hundreds more injured in an earthquake in north-western Iran, according to the BBC.

At least five people have died and hundreds more injured in an earthquake in north-western Iran, according to the BBC.

The 5.9 magnitude tremor hit East Ezerbaijan, with most of the injuries caused by crowd stampedes, state-run TV reports.

The earthquake injured 312, though only a dozen or more needed hospital treatment.

Up to 30 homes were destroyed and 60 aftershocks reported.
