Authorities in Austria were today trying to determine how a bungee jumper in Vienna’s famed Prater park became entangled in his cord and was nearly strangled.

The mishap occurred yesterday evening, when the bungee cord wrapped around the head of the 20-year-old man, officials said. It happened as the man was bouncing on the cord after jumping from a platform 180 feet high in a tandem leap with a friend.

An employee of the bungee operator managed to revive the victim, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. The friend was not injured.

Authorities closed the attraction in the Prater, a sprawling urban park known for its roller coasters, Ferris wheel and other attractions. Officials said the accident was captured on video and the tape would be reviewed.
