Montenegro’s state electoral commission today said that the final tally confirmed the victory of the pro-independence bloc in a referendum to secede from Serbia.
The head of the commission in Podgorica, Fratisek Lipka, said that according to complete preliminary results, 55.5% voted on Sunday for Montenegro to become an independent state.
The European Union had set a 55% threshold of “Yes” votes for the independence referendum to be considered valid.
