Early tallies indicate landslide victory for Aung San Suu Kyi's party in Burma elections

Burma’s opposition party said it has won 44 of the 45 lower seats for Yangon in the country’s parliamentary elections.

The National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, announced that it has also swept the upper house in Burma’s biggest city, winning all 12 seats.

The results have not yet been confirmed by the government’s election commission, which has been releasing the results at a slow place.

However, the NLD has posted representatives at counting centres who say they are able to give an accurate tally.

The results indicate that the NLD is heading towards a landslide victory in the elections, and that it could expect similar outcomes from other parts of the country.
