Chris Brown assault trial to begin

Singer Chris Brown’s trial on an assault charge in Washington is expected to begin on Monday.

It will come after a judge gives her ruling in the trial of Brown’s bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy.

Both men are charged with misdemeanor assault. A Maryland man says they punched him outside a Washington hotel in October.

Hollosy told police he punched the man after the man tried to get on Brown’s tour bus.

Court papers say the man’s nose was fractured. Brown has denied hitting the man.

A guilty verdict would be significant for the Grammy winner. Besides jail time in DC, he could face additional penalties, including jail time in California.

At the time he was arrested in Washington, Brown was on probation in Los Angeles for an attack on his then-girlfriend, the singer Rihanna, in 2009.
