A ceasefire in Gaza is not expected to be announced tonight.

Earlier, officials involved in discussions in Egypt had suggested a deal between Israeli and Palestinian leaders was close.

The expectation of a breakthrough came as the UN chief Ban Ki Moon held talks with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has also arrived in Jerusalem for talks aimed securing a ceasefire.

Israeli Ambassador to Ireland Boaz Modai said that his government is actively engaged in finding a solution:
