A gunman has opened fire near a Coptic church outside Cairo in Egypt, state-run newspaper reports.

A gunman has opened fire near a Coptic church outside Cairo in Egypt, state-run newspaper reports.

It is understood at least three people have been killed in the attack.

Security sources say an attacker was shot dead by officials after it was targeted, just south of Cairo.

It is not clear if the suspect is among the three dead, or how many others were involved.
