After months of speculation and rumours, Sony have finally revealed the release date and price for its new console, the PlayStation 5.

It will come in two separate versions, the baseline PS5 with a disk drive and the PS5 digital edition without one.

In a showcase last night, the Japanese company revealed that the standard PS5 will cost €499 while the digital only console will cost €399.

In terms of the release date for both consoles, in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea the PS5 will be released on November 12th.

While it launches in the rest of the world on November 19th. Sony has had staggered release dates before and it is usually down to the different languages spoken in what is called the PAL region (Africa, Europe, South America, and Asia).

The news comes as Sony's biggest competitor Xbox, announced the release date and the price for their new console last Tuesday. The Xbox Series X and its smaller digital counterpart the Series S, will release a week earlier than Sony on November 10th.

The more compact Series S will cost €299, while the bigger and more robust Series X costs €499.

As well as announcing the release dates and prices for the PS5, Sony also showed off what fans can expect when it comes to games as well.

A new Final Fantasy game was announced after a four year hiatus as Final Fantasy 16 kicked off the showcase. A new Harry Potter game was also revealed for the PS5 as well as the sequel to 2018's reboot of God of War, which will be released in 2021.
