Stringer: I still want to play at top level

Veteran Munster scrum-half Peter Stringer says he isn’t willing to spend the remainder of his playing career on the sidelines.

Stringer, 35, is currently on loan with English outfit Bath and he proved the difference in their win over Exeter Chiefs at the weekend, coming off the bench to score two tries on his debut.

The experienced number 9 was introduced from the bench just before halftime and turned the game in Bath’s favour with a brace of tries inside five second-half minutes.

Munster revealed last week that Stringer would be joining Bath for a loan spell expected to last seven or eight weeks as part of an arrangement similar to his loan spell at Saracens last season.

Stringer is currently Munster’s third choice number 9 behind Conor Murray and Duncan Williams but the 92-times Ireland capped player believes he still has plenty to offer.

“I still have that ambition and drive to play at the highest level," said Stringer.

"That's one of the reasons I was looking to come on loan somewhere and thankfully Bath came up with that opportunity and that's all I want to do - play and compete.

"I'm here for a couple of months. That's the loan agreement. If Munster need me, if there's an injury they can call me back."
