Want to see the Eiffel tower lit green, white and gold? Course we do!

The Republic of Ireland start their Euro 2016 campaign against Sweden tonight, with team selection and predictions the main topics of conversation the length and breadth of the country.

But did you know that if you are discussing the team on Twitter, you can help get our national colours on one of the world’s most iconic landmarks?

For the duration of the tournament, the team that gets the most mentions on Twitter each day - using the official hashtag - will see their colours used to light up the Eiffel Tower in the heart of Paris.

After their opening game win against Slovakia, Wales had the pleasure of seeing their colours shining out on the Paris skyline on Saturday night.

It is unclear if that will be the case tonight as it is reported that the famous monument will instead be lit in US colours - in solidarity after the tragic Orlando shootings over the weekend.

But if not tonight, there is still plenty of time to get the green, white and gold up there.

So get tweeting folks and don’t forget the #IRL hashtag - it’s our patriotic duty.
