Irish soccer is bracing itself for a potential match-fixing scandal, with Sligo Rovers investigating the outcome of the club's recent eircom League tie with Bray Wanderers.
The game, on the final day of the season, saw thousands of euros placed on Bray to win, which they did 2-1.
Unusual betting patterns cost bookmakers more than €100,000, with Paddy Power paying out 10 times the normal amount for an eircom League match.
Rovers chairman Michael Teehan says the club hopes to investigate who may have placed the bets and whether any corruption was involved.
"It definitely will be very severely dealt with if we find out it was anyone who has anything to do with the club," he said.
