Player and manager nominations announced for FIFA annual awards

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's duopoly of The Best FIFA Football Awards looks set to continue, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane the only British representative on the 24-strong group vying for the crown.

Alexis Sanchez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard are the others recognised for their Premier League exploits.

The second edition of the latest incarnation of FIFA's annual awards will be held on October 23 in London, recognising top performers from the 2016-17 season.

Holland forward Vivianne Miedema is a contender for The Best FIFA Women's Player, while Carli Lloyd, who spent part of last season on loan at Manchester City, is another among the 10 shortlisted. England internationals Lucy Bronze and Jodie Taylor are also up for the award.

A frustrating first campaign in the Premier League has not stopped Pep Guardiola being shortlisted for The Best FIFA Men's Coach award.

The Manchester City boss is joined by Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and Chelsea's Antonio Conte in an expanded 12-candidates list.

Chelsea also boast a candidate for The Best FIFA Women's Coach award as Emma Hayes' work in the Women's Super League has been recognised.

The shortlists were decided by two panels of what FIFA call "renowned experts from across the six confederations".

The men's awards recognised achievements from November 20, 2016 to July 2, 2017, with the women's awards taking into account the period up until August 6, 2017.

National team captains, national team head coaches and members of the international media each make up 25 per cent of the vote for the award, with a public fan ballot making up the remaining quarter.

The voting process will open on August 21 and close on September 7.
