The 41-year-old German goalkeeper, last named in a Gunners match day squad in May 2008, provided the back-up to Manuel Almunia after rejoining the club on a rolling monthly contract earlier in the week.

Manager Arsene Wenger has made three changes to his first XI from the 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Manchester United last weekend, restoring Gael Clichy in place of Kieran Gibbs and bringing Sebastien Squillaci and Aaron Ramsey - starting an Arsenal game for the first time this season – in for injured duo Johan Djourou and Abou Diaby.

Nicklas Bendtner, who had missed the United game through illness, is on the bench.

Albion boss Roy Hodgson has made one adjustment to his team from the 3-1 win at Birmingham a fortnight ago, with top scorer Peter Odemwingie coming in for Marc-Antoine Fortune.

The Baggies’ on-loan striker Carlos Vela is ineligible to feature against his parent club.
