Feyenoord took advantage of a rare PSV Eindhoven slip to move to within a point of the Eredivisie leaders with a 6-1 thrashing of Willem II.

With PSV held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente at the Philips Stadion, Feyenoord were handed a sniff of an opportunity and they took it in style.

Dutch international Dirk Kuijt grabbed a hat-trick for the Rotterdammers with Salomon Kalou netting twice and Sebastian Pardo also getting his name on the scoresheet.

Martijn Reuser provided Willem’s sole reply.

PSV were expected to stroll past Twente and maintain their three-point advantage at the summit but they encountered stubborn resistance from Rini Coolen’s men.

The visitors took the lead after 40 minutes through Kennedy Bakircioglu but veteran midfielder Phillip Cocu levelled matters midway through the second half.

RBC Roosendaal’s hunt for a first win of the season goes on after they suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of FC Utrecht.

Nassir Machi and Stefaan Tanghe scored for the visitors with goals in either half before Ebrima Sillar struck a late consolation for the hosts.
