Mick Cooke will make his first return to Gortakeegan since stepping down to take over at Drogheda United at the beginning of the 2011 season as his side face Monaghan United tonight (kick off: 8pm).

Drogheda have been the surprise packages this term with many former Monaghan players playing major roles in their run of form, but the Louthmen will expect a real test against Roddy Collins’ side, who are still looking for their first win of the new campaign.

Monaghan have a couple of injury concerns. Robert Bayly suffered a knock against UCD but Paul Whelan returns from injury.

Drogheda’s Cathal Brady is out of Friday's game along with Paul Crowley. Peter Hynes is a doubt.

Monaghan United boss Roddy Collins said: “From the start of the season we have made progress in each game and I believe we are now in the position to start collecting the points that have been narrowly denied us so far.”

Cooke said that he is relishing the return to his old stomping ground.

“I am looking forward to going back to Gortakeegan and I'm delighted that's in the Premier Division,” he said.

“I am expecting a tough game for sure, they might not have a win under their belt yet, but they have gone close and it's only a matter of time.”
