And not just because they beat the Brits.

WATCH: Not a dry eye in the house as Fijians claim first ever Olympics medals

There were plenty of reasons for the Irish to be cheerful after day six of the Olympics yesterday but for many viewers it was the Fijian rugby 7s team who stole the show.

The team had won hearts on their way to the final against Great Britain, so much so that even their rivals were half-hoping they would win.

As it turned out they romped to a gold medal, leading 27-0 at halftime and eventually winning 41-7.

The resulting gold medals were the first Olympic medals ever awarded to Fiji and the reaction of the players showed just how much it meant to them.

Check out their team singsong after the win.

We defy anyone to try and watch them go down on their knees to receive their medals and not be moved.

Their pride on seeing the Fijian flag flown to celebrate their win while they belted out their anthem.

Pride and patriotism - the Olympics at its finest.
