Sue Smith is considering aiming Mister McGoldrick at the Victor Chandler Chase at Cheltenham next month.
The eight-year-old landed his second consecutive skybet.com Castleford Chase at Wetherby – where he has now won seven times – on Tuesday with a convincing 12-length success from Albuhera.
Mister McGoldrick also beat the well-regarded Oneway and Fundamentalist on that occasion and led to a quote of 20-1 from Skybet and William Hill about his chances of winning the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Smith confirmed Mister McGoldrick to be in good order and the gelding will now be considered for the Grade Two contest on January 28.
“All’s well after Wetherby and he’s taken the race really nicely,” said the Bingley-based handler.
“It was a really good performance and I don’t think he could have done the job any better.
“He jumped well and ran right up to the line and while it wasn’t the strongest chase (Castleford) you will ever see, it was still good.
“The Victor Chandler is one of the options we have and it would seem a logical option after Wetherby.
“We’ll just have to see how everything pans out with him now.”
